Get to know Preston's famous artists

Motivation plays a big part in pursuing something you love, indeed pursuing anything or anyone and music is no different.

In the music/entertainment business you also need motivation and inspiration to better yourself and move forward. Artists and musicians often look at others before them who have been involved in making art for a long time and seek something from their experiences to add to their own array of skills and ideas. You may hear a song you absolutely can't stop listening to and it becomes the inspiration behind your new record perhaps you are involved in music only as a hobby but you can still look for inspiration.

Here at Singing Lessons Preston we believe sometimes the motivation and inspiration you are looking for is not always far from home. Your local bands and musicians can be the next big acts from your area, you yourself maybe the star people are yet to hear about but by being inspired you can keep pushing because there is a spot waiting for you to be the next name on everyone's lips! Preston has a fantastic up and coming music scene and there's no reason why you can't be a part of that.

Born in Preston, Ken Nicol is a British guitar player and songwriter who for 8 years was a part of Steeleye Span a British electric folk band and previously he was part of The Albion Band another electric folk band. He started playing the guitar at a very young age something that he continued to do throughout his career. He went onto make his breakthrough in the USA signing a major contract and releasing 4 albums before a negative period in the US meant he had to return to England in 1988 and continue his career by doing club nights and releasing solo albums independently.

In 2002 he joined Steeleye Span a legendary rock-folk band from England and one of the best-known folk bands of Britain. He stayed with the band for 8 years announcing he wanted to leave in 2010 but has since kept in touch with the band and has released solo projects and gigged throughout the country. Steeleye Span has three top 40 albums and a gold certification with their single "All Around my Hat". In the years Ken Nicol was involved with the band they enjoyed a revival and went on to tour extensively after the departure of Nicol the band had to reshape and once again rebuild with new members. Steeleye Span still records to this day and they have a tour planned for the summer of 2015 in North America all be it with a reduced line-up.
