Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, I have taught many beginners to sing. Everyone has a natural talent. Some people can sing, some can't. My aim is to help develop what you have, advise you and bring out your true potential.

You can be absolutely any age to start to sing. Indeed, even the youngest of children are able to manipulate their voices to create different effects - any parent will know the different range of sounds a toddler can make. Helping young people to learn to use their voice to sing their favourite songs can be really educational, insightful & build self esteem. In terms of taking vocal lessons, I would recommend starting no earlier than 6 years old, giving a child time to develop their own voice before undertaking lessons. Thankfully there is also no upper age limit for students and I have helped many older people to sing.

I teach some of my students here at my studio, some at academies and even in the comfort of their own homes, so you can learn to sing without having to worry about travelling to me!

Absolutely, along with pop, rock and other modern styles of singing, I also cover the classical and opera genres. I have been trained by the great Opera teachers of the RNCM. I also have a wide repertoire of  Musical Theatre songs and help performing arts students. After all, singing is not just about producing sound, but also acting & performing, really feeling the emotion and meaning of the song. Below is an opera performance I did Vegas, concentrating on just those key aspects.

Almost everyone gets nervous about singing in front of people, that's completely normal! However, with the right tutor, good practise and lots of confidence building, those nerves can be turned around into really positive energy to give you an extra boost to enjoy performance.

Actually it is quite unlikely that you are 100% tone deaf, only 5% of the population are partially tone deaf, with a much smaller percentage being completely tone deaf. If you add up all the time in your life that you have spent developing your ability to hear and pitch notes, compared to the hours that you spent learning to read when you were young you can see you might not have even given yourself a chance to learn that skill - indeed, it is a skill you have to learn and develop.

Please inform me as soon as you are aware that you are unable to hold the lesson and we will seek to rearrange the lesson. Do note; that if a student cancels their lesson within 24 hours of the planned lesson time, the student will be charged the full lesson fee.
